Summer Picnic

It was the very first summer picnic of our lives
Every drying plant appeared as green as it can be
as we sat under a shady tree we claimed to be ours
and took in the breeze of the lagoon in front of us

It was the very first summer picnic of our lives
We basked under the rays of the sun peeking
                      through the leaves above us
We witnessed how it moved from East to West
                     bringing us along the journey
It felt like God’s way of telling us that there will
                     be a long journey ahead

We waited on to watch it drop down
                     behind the trees
            Not darkening our glimpse of
                    what’s in store
But rather leaving us an excited
                    feeling of hope
            That coming are wonderful days
                   of beautiful sunsets for us

It was the very first summer picnic of our lives
God’s amazing creation witnessed as we
We shared stories of our lives, thoughts, and laughter
Moments that bonded us with the natural environment
                   around us

We were like two beautiful flowers waiting to
                  bloom in spring time
Or like two cocoons waiting to be hatched,
And when the beautiful butterfly comes out
We’ll be looking forward to the spring, autumn
and winter picnics of our lives.
This is just the very first summer picnic of our lives.
